Beautiful Brave ~DC Post Surgery Photography~

A few weeks ago another photographer, woman and mother reached out looking for a photographer who would be willing to document her body after having an incredibly invasive surgery to remove a softball sized tumor.  The tumor, a nerve sheath tumor, was benign but had grown so large it was \affecting Julie’s ability to breathe and causing fatigue.

On March 19, Julie underwent surgery to remove the tumor.

On March 28, I visited Julie to help document this moment in her life.  When I arrived in her home I found a woman whose body was scarred and bruised but whose spirit was anything but.  I found a determined, hopeful spirit.  A woman full of grace and strength.  Beautiful and brave.

Beautiful and brave!

Julie, you are an inspiration.  You are a reminder to not take the moments and days for granted.  To step out from behind the camera.  To embrace the healthy body I have today, imperfections and all.  To face life with hope, grace and a healthy does of love and laughter.

Thank you for sharing this intimate and personal moment with me and letting me share it with others.  Rock on you beautiful brave woman!

Julie, This is such a personal and private moment and yet you chose to share with us and the world. You a brave and courageous woman as well as beautiful, warm and delightful.
You are sharing with us to not hide from our scares but to embrace them and move forward with them. Only in this way can we really grow strong and health.
That is why I believe that you were able to get better so much sooner.
I am in awe of your strength, courage and beauty.
    Thank you for sharing.
